Eric Riesel received a B.A., in chemistry and physics from Columbia University. His research focuses on the synthesis of intermetallic nanoparticles and the modification of their surface chemistry. This involves understanding how a chemical environment affects the electronic and magnetic properties of these nanoparticles. It also takes advantage of their high surface area to volume ratio to control structure through interactions with surface molecules. Understanding electronic and magnetic properties of these intermetallic compounds may enable their use in quantum computing, renewable energy generation, and advanced electronics.
