Bradley Moreno received a B.S. in chemistry from the University of Texas at Dallas. His current research focuses on embryotic sea urchin primary mesenchyme cell (PMC) production of calcium carbonate endoskeletons. This research involves studying the effect of certain proteins, such as VEGF, on the migration and calcium carbonate spicule production of PMCs. His research intends to lead to enhanced understanding of PMCs’ control over crystal shape and structure, the reconstruction of these materials outside of the sea urchin embryo, and synthesis of novel materials mimicking the sophistication of these biominerals.
